At present, however, I insist upon having samples of blood for analysis in all cases of childhood lead poisoning, and in all cases of lead poisoning in the adult, except those rare cases of tetraethyl lead poisoning which occur under highly unusual or accidental cir cumstances (when tetraethyl lead is absorbed, the blood level increases little or none, apparently because the intermediate compounds resultant upon the de- ' composition of the molecule in the tissues are r.ot capable of combining with the component of the crytlirocyte that is involved when inorganic lead compounds are absorbed).

It would take much more than the quantity of lead in such an amount of gaso line to produce symptoms of lead intoxication.

In any case, while I can not pronounce on the status of this man, I can say that we have not obtained any evidence that would lead us to believe in the existence of an irreversible organic disease of the central nervous system as a sequel to acute tetraethyl lead poisoning.

As you know, there is relatively little lead poisoning toda because of the sanitary precautions observed in factories where lead pigments are manufactured, and because of the reasonable care exer cised by the painter in the application of paints containing lead.

I see nothing which could be lifted from the text and used by those who might wish to show detrimental effects of exposure to low levels of lead.
