SXDERGSX8 January SO, 1948 Ur* K* Dunn, Treasurer New York Office Thank you very much for your letter of January 26th* X appreciate your consideration of this more than X oould tell because X realise that a lot of money is involved and that the returns we may expect will more or less be tangible rather than a definite financial dividend* However, I do honestly feel that Brake Shoe has made a tremendous contribution through this study to our knowledge of dust diseases and X have been extremely proud of the faot that you and management have taken the enlightened end liberal view of the whole situation* Whichever way the experiment turns out X am quite sure that the contribution will be no less important* X know that Dr* Vorwald sinoerely believes that it will give us the answers otherwise he would not suggest its being done* If we are able to show that our grinding dusts are not capable of producing definite occupational disease in experimental animals, we will not only feel better about those oases of nodulation we have oaused but will be able to evaluate future exposures muoh sore readily* If, on the other hand, we find that definite silloosis can be jroduoed then we know where we stand* The implications of this study as X have said before, are far-reaching and as Dr* Vorwald has pointed out, if results thus far prove to be conclusive, we will bare to change our present thinking and interpretation of nodular x-ray shadows in oooupa* tional disease* X have high hopes for the results of this work and after many discussions with Dr* Gardner and Dr* Vorwald, it Is a piece of research that has been needed for a long time* Am X correct in assuming that you will inform Dr* Vorwald of our $$oislon?
