Pendergest and Leopold on the subject of benign pneumoooniosis whioh appeared in the journal of the A.V.A., 1 have a oopy of this article in the Ifedlcal Journal on file here* This represents, along with the articles by Sander and Enser, about all that we have on the subject* I did notice on the same page of the Industrial Hygiene Digest a rather interesting note on an article by Harding from the British Journal of Industrial Medicine for January 1945 which dealt with some experimental work on rats* This consisted of intra tracheal injections of rouge (ferrio oxide). This substance produced rather cfc&doal stippling or fine nodulation of the lungs with no deteotable fibrosis as a result of the presence of iron oxioe for some eight months* This would tend to support the evidenoe we already have that iron oxide may produce the results noted without actual fibrosis* This work will be along the lines of our proposed experiment with Dr* Gardner* I will discuss this more fully with you when you come to Chicago* i LEH/ar L.
