Dr, Graham Bdgar Ethyl Gasoline Corporation Chrysler Building Hew York City Hew York Dear Edgar t Recent difficulties with weigh tanks as a result of the accumulation of sludge hare necessitated the opening and repainting of tanks From the condition of the one at Cloves, Ohio, which I saw this morning, it would appear that there wore at least several inches of sediment In the bottom, an accumulation which sooner or later would lead to the necessity of cleaning We would appreciate getting any ideas you may hay on the technique of cleaning* and preparatory procedure for the conversion of the lead to inorganic compounds* As I recall, some figures that Johnny Schaefer obtained following tank ear cleaning, indicated significant; amounts of lead even following forty-eight hours steaming with exhaust steam used in conjunction with sulfuyyl chloride* As there is no lower vent on the weigh tank, the cleaning will be quite a problem, particularly so as it Is next to impossible with the present equipment to suck out the fluid which is held in with the deposits.
