to F F Hoy subject INTEROFFICE date June 23, 1976 from P J Eldreth REFERRING TO LETTER OF HNU Photo Analyzer Purchase Approval A few weeks ago Larry and I had a short meeting with you to discuss some of the problems we were experiencing with the vmylchlonde monitoring system One of the items mentioned during this meeting was a proposal to initiate a v/c leak detection program Your response seemed to be favorable to such a program, but you requested that we submit our recommendation on the best portable v/c analyzer, designed for "this type of application and the personnel who would perform the job Attached please find Larry's recommendation, and some other information, on why he feels this is the best unit The cost of the HNU Photo Analyzer is $2950 as opposed to $3600 for the Century Ova Although I did not personalia test the HNU unit m the field, I did have an opportunitv to see the unit and discuss its features with Larry The construction and simplicity of operation appears to me as far superior to that of the Century unit In addition, our field experience with the Century unit has not been favorable With your approval, we would like to purchase the HNU Photo Ana lyzer As Larry "has indicated, it seems to be the most practical unit available for the application we have m mind, mainly the v/c leak detection and monitoring program, which was recently incorporated m the Security Guards 30b description As I mentioned before, they may not be the most experienced people for this type of job, but it can be incorporated m their normal routine plant patrols and perhaps better utilize some of the time they are spending on these patrols As for the necessary training, I don't feel this would prove to be a major obstacle or problem and the experience they would gam should prove to be of substantial value to them m performing other duties of their job If you need additional information or would like to discuss the program m more detail with Larry and me, please advise PJE bak S1273A Paul J Eldreth f S i 1J / OCC 014391
