VINYL CHLORIDE AND BIRTH DEFECTS In the late summer of 1974, a researcher in Ohio reported that vinyl chloride gas might be contributing to a higher than normal incidence of birth defects among children born in communities where such gas is produced or where it is used in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride resin.
