Standards Institute The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Com mittee, under the direction of the Policy Board on Codes and Standards, is responsible for the formation and revision of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code The society publishes the Transactions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the monthly publication Mechanical En gineering and Applied Mechanics Review Board of Certified Safety Professionals of America 501 S 6th St, Champaign, III 61820 This organization was incorporated in the state of Illinois in 1969 to grant the designa tion of Certified Safety Professional to any individual whose academic training and pro fessional safety experience meet the estab lished criteria Contact the organization for details on cerbfication Right Safety Foundation, Inc. 1800 N Kent St, Arlington, Va 22209 The Flight Safety Foundation works to unpiove standards and techniques in all aircraft operations Its specific objectives are to pro mote research, to provide a forum where con troversial safety issues may be lesolved, to disseminate accident prevention information (through such means as articles, bulletins, re ports, books, and lectures), to encourage the adoption of proven safety devices or proce dures, and to try to foresee hazards and to press for corrective action To further these objectives, the foundation acts as a clearinghouse for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of safety informa tion Its personnel participate m safety dis cussions and safety studies and conduct safety seminars for aviation personnel It presents awards and otherwise encourages the growth of safety programs It acts as a catalytic agent m drawing attention to needed improve ments and changes in safety techniques Its publications include Accident Prevention Bulletin (monthly) Pilots Safety Exchange Bulletin (monthly) Business Pilots Safety Bulletin (monthly) Aviation Mechanics Bulletin (bimonthly) Cabin Crew Safety Exchange (bimonthly) Among the foundation's reports and special studies are Aircraft Fueling Ramp Service Problem of Bogus Parts Collision Prevention Accident Reports and Accident Preventwn Health Physics Society PO Box 156, E Weymouth, Mass 02189 Organized m 1955 and incorporated in 1961, the HPS has as its objectives (a) to aid and advance health physics research and ap plied activities, (b) to encourage dissemina tion of information between individuals m this and related fields, (c) to improve public undei standing of the problems and needs m radiation protection, (d) to initiate and de velop programs for training of health physi cists, and (e) to promote the health physics profession Health physics is devoted to the protection of man and his environment from unwarranted radiation exposure The health physicist is a person engaged m the study of problems and practices of providing radiation protec tion He is concerned with an understanding of the mechanisms of radiation damage, with the developing and implementing methods and procedures necessary to evaluate hazards, and with providing protection to man and his environment from unwarranted radiation ex posure Health Physics is the official journal of the society Illuminating Engineering Society 345 East 47th St, New York, N Y 10017 The society is the scientific and engineer ing stimulus in the field of lighting The work of the Industrial Lighting Committee and its numerous subcommittees for various specific industries should be of particular in terest to industrial safety professionals Many other projects, such as street and highway, aviation, and office lighting, may also be of interest Through the society, safety engineers can obtain reference material on all phases of lighting, including authoritative treatise on nomenclature, testing, and measurement pro cedures 607
