Excess lung cancer mortality has been observed In counties with copper, lead, or zinc smelting and refinin8 industries, thus leading to speculation that arsenicat air pollution may be hazardous to individuals living in & vicinity o f these smelters.6 However, this observation and speculations therefrom were subsequently challenged,' leading to an investigation8 that yielded no association between lung cancer mortality and residence near a Utah copper smelter.

A review of the literature revealed no strictly analagous use of F*, although Earshaw patents British 416,744, Sept. 20, 1934, and 9,8, 2,044,244, June 16, 1936, suggest the use of hydrofluoric acid, fluoroboric acid, or fluorosilicic acid as solubilising agents during the manufacture of lead chromate from lead oxide end chromic acid or sodium bichromate.
