Page 3374 1 factories that were dusty, but not at all portions of 2 the factory. 3 Subsequently, in this country in 1935, a 4 physician named Lanza basically duplicated 5 Merewether's study in the eastern part of the United 6 States. 7 He looked at several asbestos manufacturing 8 plants, he measured the dust levels, he examined the 9 workers and basically found the same thing that 10 Merewether found, there was disease. 11 The amount of disease tended to be related 12 to the amount of dust, possible to reduce the dust, 13 and he recommended that dust control measures be 14 instituted. 15 Neither Merewether nor Lanza established any 16 numerical value of dust control.
