The Environmental Protection Agency, as well as state and .municipal laws, strictly limit the use of "non-exempt" solvents in asphaltic products. These illegal "non-exempt" solvents are photochemically reactive - that is, sunlight changes their chemi cal structure. They become irritants for the eyes and for the entire breathing system. Illegal products containing "non-exempt" solvents beyond regulated limits are being offered for sale at so-called bargain prices. You and your customers are both liable for the sale and the use of such materials. The law states "no person shall sell, offer for sale or pur chase any architectural coating containing a photochemically reactive solvent..." And, further, by Federal Regulation, not only the sale, but the use of coatings containing "non-exempt" solvents beyond specific limits are prohibited. You have a right and an obligation to ask your suppliers if their products are manufactured with'complying, or legal materials.
