EMERGENCY GUIDELINES FOR ; ASBESTOS SLURRY Potential Hazards: INHALATION. If a spill of the asbestos sluriy should occur, AVOID CREATING AND BREATHING THE DUST. Caution is advised as breathingasbestos may cause serious bodily harm. OVEREXPOSURE TO ASBESTOSDUSTMAY CAUSE ASBESTOSES WHICH IS A SCARRING OF THE LUNGS. Exposure of EYES to asbestos dust may cause eye irritation. SKIN exposure to asbestos may cause skin irritation. If at all possible, keep the spilled material damp or moist with a fine spray or mist of water. This will keep the creation of dust down to a minimum. Do not create dust. Do not dry sweep or use air hose for cleaning. Do not take exposed/contaminated protective equipment or clothing home. DISPOSE OF THESE CONTAMINATED MATERIALS IN THE PROPER METHOD AS RECOMMENDED BY FEDERAL REGULATIONS Always wear the proper personal protection equipment. ESPECIALLY RESPIRATORY PROTECTION.when handling or working with asbestos fibers or slurry. The proper protection equipment can be found in the29 CFR part 1910.1001 of the OSHA regulations. Handling Precautions; While loading/unloading:transIer line could rupture causing a slurry spill. While handling wet Asbestos: wear the following safety equipment > rubber gloves safety glasses with side shield, disposable paper suit, COMFO II respirator with HEPA filters, or forced air respirator, rubber boots or disposable footwear. Always keep Asbestos in the wet form; never allow to dry ifpossible- use a fine water spray to prevent creation ofdust If an area becomes contaminated by a spill of Asbestos or slurry, barricade the area so that other traffic will not spread the material to other areas. Any material that is leaked or spilled must be immediately isolated and cleaned up as soon as possible.
