inter-office memo TENNECO CHEMICALS, INC. To P.R. Scarito FROM F.W. Kanzler subject pgaf Contamination AT Burlington At Burlington September 28, 1973 i JCopy to pil q The leaf specimens submitted showed an extensive growth of mildew with no evidence of resin present. The large leaf showed an elevated type mildew. It is suspected, however, that this phenomena Is more due to the nature of the leaf (hair). The smaller leaf showed mildew in varying stages, full growth (Figure 2) and just starting in a spider web type fashion (Fig ure 3). Spores or eggs seem to be the seed for this mildew, which is clear ly visible in Figure 3. For comparison, we have taken a specimen from a lilac tree with a similar appearance of the leaf surface. Microscopic examination showed an identi cal mildew pattern when compared with the other two leaf samples. This type of mildew may be controlled with wettable sulphur or dusting sul phur. Also commercially available is a spray tradenamed Karathane. The leaf contamination is definitely not caused by resin. FWK/jst Attachment. F.W. Kanzler COLOR!TE 013878
