Gentlemen:
Our company is currently setting up to produce a line of porcelain enameled aluminum cookware, salad bowls, casseroles, etc., for a local manufacturer in this area. These units will be distributed nationally and will be displayed at the forthcoming Giftware Show in Atlantic City this coming January.
We are proposing to use a porcelain enameled coating on both the
interior as well as the exterior of these bowls. Since this coating
contains approximately
lead in the formulation, we have been
concerned with the possibilities of lead contamination in such a use.
We understand that the Lead Industries Association has done a consid erable amount of research in this area for the pottery industry. We would appreciate any information you could forward to us which would be of assistance in determining the type of tests we should run in order to make certain that cur units will not be injurious to health, along with any other current information you can furnish us regarding this matter. A copy of a recent test performed by the Truesdail Laboratories for our firm is enclosed for your evaluation. This test represents typical porcelain enameled aluminum units as we propose to manufacture them.
It is possible to, of course, manufacture the parts without the porce lain glaze on the inside. However, from our market evaluation, we find that the sale of the units would be enhanced with the coatings on the inside as well as the outside. It is for this reason that we are particularly anxious to coat both the interior as well as the exterior and we hope you can be of some assistance to us in this regard.
