m CALIFORNIA RESEARCH CORPORATION SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA ` X-105A STATE HEALTH AUTHORITIES __________________________ APRIL 25, I960 In accordance with the previously agreed to plan, the writer called on Dr. Malcolm Merrill, Director of the State Board of Health, on April 21 to advise him that Standard of California would announce the use of tetramethyl lead in their gasolines on April 25. Although Dr. Kehoe had previously discussed TML with Dr. Merrill, the latter had a number of questions which were answered to his complete satisfaction. In parting he stated that he felt the interview extremely timely since a meeting of the State Board of Health had been called for the following day and that he was happy to be able to announce to its members the nature and medical history of tetramethyl lead. At noon of the same day the announcement was made to Mr. Ben Linsky of the local Air Pollution Control District. He also had been previously advised by Dr. Kehoe of the characteristics of tetramethyl lead but had certain additional questions primarily aimed at any influence the new material might have on the amount of lead released to the atmosphere. The answers were, of course, in the negative and satisfied Mr. Linsky. On April 22 the same Information and essentially the same answers were given to Mr. Smith Griswold of the Los Angeles Air Pollution Control District. Again Mr. Griswold was satisfied with the answers and was highly complimentary of the steps Standard of California has taken In working with the Los Angeles Air Pollu tion Control District in the solution of their problems. Later on the automotive laboratory was visited in the company of Steve Nicksic.
