Walter Hough was in this office on Maroh 23rd, and disoussed with me the progress of the industrial hygiene work in the New Jersey State Health Department. Doctor Hough states that arrangements are being made by the New Jersey State Health Department for office space for the personnel engaged in industrial hygiene work. This office space is in the Broad Street National Bank Building, 145 East State Street, Trenton, N.J. All of the personnel on industrial hygiene work will move into this space exoept Dootor Hough. He feels that it is wise for him to remain near the Office of the Director of Health for the present. Doctor Hough feels that this provision of office spaoe for the industrial hygiene group is indicative of material progress in the aooeptanoe of themselves and their work. In discussing his various activities with Dootor Hough, he indicated that they had experienced considerable difficulty in obtaining entrance into oortain industrial plants. He states that various Federal agencies, particularly the Federal Bureau of Investigation, have stressed to indus trial manufacturers engaged in war work the importance of excluding all visitons from industrial establishments. Dootor Hough indicates that iden tification cards would be of material assistance to his field staff. In a memorandum to this office, dated Maroh 20th, Administrative Assistant i. Glen Hunter of the States Relations Division, forwarded a t>ioposed identification card. Doctor Hough reviewed this card and stated that he felt that the proposed identification oard should be amplified to include fingerprints of the individual and the official seal of the Service, ^his suggestion is submitted for your consideration. It is possible that other members of your field staff on industrial hygiene work have experienced diffioulty in obtaining entrance to industrial plants.
