Kretz K.G. Townsend R.K. Watkins A.L. Barefoot Past paint/sandblasting surveys have indicated a need for increased attention to the subject area, also R.C. Glock's note to B.G. "Bill" West of April 3, 1980. The following action plan was formulated: (1) We will survey the available approved paints relative to lead and chromium content/exposure. We will secure help of Coatings. Team as this is a general problem faced by every plant with economic entanglements permeating even the corporate level. GKA/WEK to pursue with results by 6/1/80. R.C. Glock to be utilized in securing help of Coatings MOT Group and developing a coordinated effort versus each plant individually attacking the common problem. (2) The sandyard/paint facility will be rearranged to reduce personnel exposure (G.F. Project to relocate from south to north side of building). Robert McKinney to accomplish by 5/15/80. Roddy Watkins - some comments relative to silicia dust being drawn into sandyard compressor. Also, must be more alert relative to sign placing and roping off work area. (3) Brown & Root individual craftsmen exposure test to be conducted. If above allowable limits then medical monitoring will be required. Sufficient efforts will be expended to insure exposure levels below allowable: DEH to accomplish by 5/15/80. (4) We will survey other location for facilities and costs of new paint/blast facilities. May be desirable to physically inspect. In our long range maintenance plan we have a $40M expenditure slated for 1984 (has been de ferred annually for the last 3-4 years). R.K. (5) A question was raised relative to the mandatory utilization of a positive displacement, fresh air, paint mask. I plead ignorance, but R.K. Watkins and I will have an answer by 5/15/80.
