Company Ownership: Parkway Products acquired Littlestar Plastics on Januray 7, 2019. Littlestar Plastics maintained ownership for the prior 27 years. Process Description: Parkway Products owns and operates a plastics injection molding and fabrication shop making parts primarily for several industries. Various types of plastic pellets are melted and injected into molds in one of ten injection molding machines. Parts are typically less than one square foot. Once cooled, pieces are milled as needed and packaged. Most milling is dry, and all lathes are enclosed and contain a mist control device to prevent any mist from escaping the units when the doors are opened. The facility has a CNC machine that can be used to machine metal parts, but this very rarely occurs. Finished parts are packaged and shipped. The plastics used most in the process are Radel, Ultem, Acetal, and Torlon. There are no dedicated exhaust stacks for the process, but there are multiple roof vents throughout the building. Staff Interview: The facility typically operates from 5am-2:30am six days per week and has approximately 54 employees. Parkway Products has approximately 800 employees across 9 facilities. Mr. Hansen informed us that the facility had a previous permit under Littlestar Plastics and had recently applied for a new permit under Parkway Products. Mr. Erickson and Mr. McKenzie provided the onsite tour and an explanation of the process, and Mr. Hansen, Mr. Owens, and Mr. Preston provided basic facility information by phone.
