Barresi, and Charles Clover regarding Industrial Hygiene Training to be given to refinery union representatives and supervisory personnel and Industrial Hygiene surveys which will be proposed for the refineries in keeping with the most recent union contracts. Tentative schedules have been prepared for making Medical/Industrial Hygiene inspections of the various plants for this year. During the week of March 19, the Santa Maria and Paramount refineries, along with the Marine Terminal, will be the first facilities to be visited. A portion of the API meeting being held in Los Angeles during this week will also be attended. The Lake Charles Refinery will be visited during March 29-31. Some time has been spent preparing a Medical/Industrial Tlygiene presentation for the Refinery Management. This was given on February 13, 1978, at the Houston offices and covered the areas of Standards for Toxic and Hatardoua Materials. Potential Petroleum Refining Stresses, Monitoring Programs, and Industrial Hygiene Recommendations. A portion of a Benzene Conraittee Meeting, held on the morning of February 13, in Houston, was attended. The purpose of the meeting was in consideration of the recent Permanent Benzene Standard. Reviews have been made of the subjects of: 1) The Permanent Benzene Standard. 2) A Control Program for High Boiling Catalytically Cracked Oils. 3) Mechanisms of Carcinogenicity: Dose Response. Toxicological information for Hydrazine has been supplied to Dave Kuhn's office for use in making recommendations for proper Industrial Hygiene practices for the Chocolate Bayou Project. A research report covering a survey of the Ponca City Refinery streams has been obtained and will be reviewed. A main prompting factor was case exposures of employees to Decant Oil. A meeting was held between O. R. Barresi, Ken Hunt, and myself for consideration of a list of first candidate chemicals and materials for proposed monitoring in the refineries. It was decided to do personal monitoring as follows: Alkanes and Benzene - to be monitored on a yearly basis in all plants. Hydrogen Fluoride - to be monitored at Billings and Ponca City. Hydrogen Sulfide - to be monitored at all plants. Methyl Ethyl Ketone - to be monitored at Ponca City. Phenol - to be monitored at Ponca City, Lake Charles, and Humber. Coke Dust - to be monitored at Ponca City, Lake Charles, and Humber. Lead - to be monitored at all plants. Welding Fumes - to be monitored at all plants. Oran D.
