OCEAN FREIGHT RATE INCREASE AMOSTIE AND BLUE ASBESTOS FIBER FROM SOUTH AFRICA
The U. S. - South and East Africa Shipping Conference announced on May 19th, an increase' of an additional 107. in the ocean freight rate of subject fiber, from South African to U. S. Ports, effective October 1, 1969.
This increase amounts to approximately $3.00 per ton, and it will be necessary, as of the effective date, for our supplier, North American Asbestos Corporation, to add this amount to the U. S. prices of Amosite and Blue Asbestos Fiber.
Our General Traffic Department is aware of this increase and of course will do everything they can to try to forestall or have the increased rate reduced. Although this will be a Herculean task to prove successful.
