Dear fir, Lenssi
The results of the dv.st determinations made at King City* fbrch 10-13* 1S&4 are given in the accompanying table, Included also in the table is information defining sampling conditions, I suggest that theca results a lout; tilth those obtained last fall be considered as the beginning of a permanent record cf duet doterrdnatiorsa made in our asbestos operations.
Owing to curtailment in operations and the need to evaluate counting techniques that could be uned at King City, wo did not collect ac nany camples as wo would enpect to got under other .conditions. Ilcrevcr, 1 believe those that we did got give a fair appraisal cf tlis present work environment.
You will note t-haWc-c two daya ear.rples were col lee tec: during periods of bagging epen fiber. Other production machinery as generally sown during theca oseeolcnc.
Samplea collected on the third day reflect condition during which mush cf the equipment cr.cept the bagger v?ac in operation. These variations in conditions are noted in the table of findings.
Generally th dust scents were less than the iir&t of 3 rillien particles per cubic foot of air (f-i?Pt?) recommended for asbestos, Thsce tint wars higher were so follows*

of particles in th liquids in the counting soils &ros water, 50 adnutea and alcohol, 40 sdnateo. In fcb use of either liquid, cleanliness of glasses4 is critical, because the allowable master of partiolea is mall.
Initially, locations for routine sanpla collection should he those shown in tha table of results. As mil operations beeonta sore steady, changes or additions in locations say be indicated. Plans should also include periodic investigations at the e&ac*
The frequency that saaples should he collected win be affected by t&o level of activity, for steady operation and continued production, I receraend that samples be collected on a monthly teals. In ticia, if dust control ic adequate* tbs frequency xsay b@ reduced, When changes are md& in operations In s?Moh dust my be of soncem, than the effect of the changes should bo evaluated by more frequent ample collection. An asset program cannot ba established imtil operations are &ore stabilised,
Jtr, Hastens and X diueussed the glassware flraplngera and eounfcing cells) needed for a satisfactory dust evaluation gfograa, &s are still conducting tests on battery-powered caroling equipment and until tftee-s are ccraplebed, I believe It v&co to withhold purchase of any easspla collection apparatus. Is 11 send you our findings and recommendation
as coon as possible.
Please let tan teow If you have questions on findings to date or If you note potential exposure fco dust that Implies a need for further study* According to ny present travel plans, 2 will bs in California again in tno ouinrser to visit King City and other Corporation Installations, At that time, lae can review cur program.
Yours vary truly,
