It IT always difficult to evaluate the part any Incentive program actually plays In a safety program. I make this statement because our safety pro* gram Is setting all types of records at this time, and I would not want t give the impression that we feel that "Plaid1* stamps are totally responsl* ble. However, I do bellevo they are contributing more to our success than
ther systems we have used before.
First, it may be worthwhile to point out that we surveyed this area, which is a small community, to determine the most popular trading stamp. We felt it was important to use popular stamps so they could be added to other stamps being saved by the employee's family.
We use the stamps to promote safety as much as possible. For example, the "Bonnie Says" signs are used with safety slogans on different occasions throughout the plant. The ataspg, when von, are always nailed to the home of the employee with a letter about safety signed by our Works Manager. Publicity is posted on bulletin boards and In the plant newspaper about the number of stamps that were won and the number to be awarded If ve make ur next goal. letter, with 100 stamps, la sent to each new employee from the Safety Department to introduce the program. contest last Fall, using stamps as the prise.

As far as our safety record Is concerned, we are approaching 2,000,000 man*
hours without a lost*tlme accident at a time when we.are expanding and have many of our people on new jobs or repairing unfamiliar equipment. For your information, I am attaching an outline of our stamp plan and a copy of the letter sent to each new employee.
