Stermon The personnel monitoring in. July showed lower average exposures for operators than in June, but the frequency of excursions above 50 ppm VCM remained about the same. In July, 4. 5% of all readings were over ^ \~y 0p{> 50 ppm VCM exposure versus 3. 5% over 50 ppm in June and 8. 3% over j 50 ppm in May. The greatest improvement is that in July 81. 1% of all samples showed less than 10 ppm VCM exposure versus 60.8% below 10 ppm in June and 47. 3% below 10 ppm in May. A. Primeau -2- 5 August 1974 The Sipin sampling pumps were received in July. Due to the use of only 0. iTgrams of carbon in the small tubes used with the Sipin pumps versus the 30 grams now used, a series of comparative samples were taken using both sampling pumps and tubes. The laboratory had to order some smaller sample handling vials to allow getting valid data from the smaller tubes. After less than one week's use, two of the Sipin pump battery chargers failed. When they failed they overloaded the charging circuit of the pumps and burned out some of the wiring. The Sipin representative acknowledged that this problem had been experienced with some of the early production pumps. The third pump was delivered later than the other two and should not have this problem. The two pumps which failed have been shipped back to the factory and they are shipping two new pumps to us.
