Dear Doctor Osorioi Following the receipt of your letter of May 8, Doctor Susklnd sads the necessary inquiries, first of the bibliographic staff of the Laboratory, and a little later, when I returned fros attendance at one of our professional nestings, he questioned ns concerning the availability of further information than that supplied fron the Library in the lorn of reports and publications of the Laboratory. I suggested that I thought it desirable that I write to you, first to indicate that I an still available at the laboratory (where 1 an working, sore or less aa before, and vith cooperation fron other nenbers of the Staff of the Laboratory, but without admlnlstratlvw responsibilities, in Kaerltus capacity). Tou nay wish to raise issues that have to do with methods of testing earthware for its resistance to the extraction of netala fron glazes, and our chenlsts in this field, with whoa I have worked for nany ywars nay, perhaps, be helpful. The real problem, so far as ay experience goes, has to do with the nature of the Materials employed in fabricating a glass for ceramic warm. The composition of the glaze la important, of course, and the temperature and duration of firing are highly instrumental in converting the combined metallic ingredients, such ss lead, into the silicate. Such experience as I've had leads ne to believe that proper firing to accomplish this complete conversion is one of the highly important factors in reducing the extraetablllty of lead from the wh i cli As to the research laboratories w-. are presently engaged in work of this type, or have, in the past, had experience in this field, X cannot give you satisfactoz advice at present.
