( < ^ The regular weekly meeting of the SHAC committee was called to order by the Chairman, Jim' Gatewood, on Wednesday, February 6, in the Labor Relations Conference Room. SELECTION OF GIFTS FOR 1984 SAFETY PERFORMANCE R. Hammann reviewed with the committee several lists of gift suggestions submitted from the field. The committee selected the following five gifts: 1) Rechargeable Flashlight 2) Toaster Oven 3) Calculator with Tape 4) Crock Pot 5) First Aid Kit R. Sharp will determine both the cost of each item and associated volume discounts, if any. J. Gatewood will review the list and proposed distribution plan with G. Tromblee before the next meeting. PROPOSED PLAN FOR GIFT DISTRIBUTION The committee recommends that each employee be allowed to select one of the five gifts. Examples of each gift will be put on display in the cafeteria display showcase. Extensive publicity will be given to the distribution program. Once aware of the offer, all employes will receive a "computer card ordering form" which will have printed on it the employe's name and a description of each of the five gifts. After placing a check mark next to the gift of his choosing, the card will be returned to SHAC. The gifts will then be ordered. After the gifts are delivered to the plant the employes will go to a central location and pick up their gift. The computer cards will be used to verify gift selection thereby serving SC 000440 LAM001637 SHAC Minutes - 2/6/85 page 2 as a check against supply/demand imbalances. J. Gatewood will contact E. E. Silvertooth to determine what is involved with producing the order forms. STATUS OF AWARD TO Q. A. LAB The Q.A. lab was rated outstanding in the First Quarter Safety and Housekeeping inspection and it was indicated that they would be awarded a plaque. However, it was later realized that this group had sustained a recordable injury which in turn made them ineligible for an award. J. Gatewood will discuss this with Debra Pease. The lab will still hold an outstanding rating. HAZARDOUS MATERIAL/PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT MATRIX The committee has recommended the following: 1) The matrix will contain information limited to the chemicals/conditions present in that area as opposed to listing all chemicals handled by the plant. 2) R. Hammann will draft a letter to all units/areas requesting that they prepare their own matrix according to a defined, uniform format. 3) J. Gatewood will consult G. Tromblee on the forma tion of a Task Force which would review the completed matrix posters. If approved, the task force would include members from production, research, loss prevention and industrial hygiene. 4) Production units would be required to post the matrix sheet at the chief's desk, control room exit doors, and maintenance shops. CONTRACTOR SAFETY J. Gatewood will contact J. Richards on the status of the safety film being produced for contractors. SAFETY SHOWERS R. Hammann reported that the cost of painting plant safety showers in order to "highlight visibility" will be approxi mately $50,000. DISTILLED WATER FOR CONSUMPTION R. Hammann will review with health services the suitability of distilled water for human consumption. R. Sharp will sc 000441 LAM001638 SHAC Minutes - 2/6/85 page 3 investigate the cost and logistics of securing bottled drinking water for distribution to the plant during extended periods of freezing weather. R. Hartmann will discuss the results of our findings with J. T. Shipley. SAFETY SLOGAN SELECTED The committee chose Tom Holder's slogan "Safety doesn't hurt accidents do!. The committee decided to reward each weekly winner. D. Barfoot presented a Monsanto Gift Catalog from which all prizes will be selected by the winners - with the constraint that items selected be valued at under $10.00. NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on 2/13 at 1330 in the V.I.P. conference room. B. J. Sanders will chair the meeting during J. Gatewood's planned absence. B. J. Sanders will also assume J. Gatewood's SHAC responsibilities while he is out of the plant. R. D. Coleman /ec SC 000442 LAP/1001 S39
