It is important, however, that the professional relationships which 1 have in my own right or in that of this Laboratory on the West Coast, should be kept sufficiently separated from matters of special interest so as to be maintained above that level. Therefore, I think it Inadvisable that Items of direct professional import should bo circulated* I have no objection to providing your office with pertinent copies of correspondence but I should not want them to go farther. I know that I can count civ your discretion but I cannot afford to be embarrassed by their possibly indis creet use by others. Accordingly I suggest that your information to V/OGA on the subject of ny exchanges of correspondence with Dr. Pottenger be couched in general terms. You might refer to how the correspondence originated-A through!Ra'hkin. arid on to me - and indicate that I have replied In answer to specific questions of Dr. Pottengerfs concerning: (l) the potential exposure of specific persons and groups who live or work in areas of congested automobile trafficj and (2) the possible role of lead compounds in the atmosphere as a catalyser of certain chemical interactions. You might also, with some' advantage, say that he has replied tome, thanking me for the information (since he was unable to attend the meeting at which I talked) and saying that he would like to come In and talk with me when lie comes to the Cincinnati area, a little later, to pay a visit to a relative.
