Visual presentations had boon discussed by the sub-committee and further' creative work would be necessary by the agency. 70S ARC Foundation in Edinburgh (SR 3lj0) A press release had been issued to the medical and health correspondents of the main daily, evening and provincial newspapers and the specialist journals for publication on Wednesday, 23rd June, 1971. Copies were distributed at the meeting. Copies had also been sent to the ARC Secretary and the National Coal Hoard and would be sent to tho Asbestos Association, the British Friction Materials Council, tho Thermal Insulation Contractors' Association, the Asbestos Cement Manufacturers' Association and the Asbestos Fibre Importers' Committee* 709 Doomsday Book (SR 351) Mr Mann had written to tho author, Mr Rattray Taylor, to suggest a meeting in London with AIC representatives, but had not yet received a reply* 710 Talcum Powder (SR 324). 711 The sub-committee had decided not to seek a meeting with Johnson & Johnson until more facts were available, but were drawing tho attention of tho ARC to this important subject. Tcn-ssido (SR 359) 715 The ARC Secretary was dealing with a request from the Safety Officer of the Swan Hunter Shipbuilding Group for assistance in the publication of a report dealing with n survey of joiners employed by the firm who had v/orked for a varying number of years with asbestoscontaining materials. Each had been given a clean bill of health by the Pneumoconiosis Board. ARC Achievements (1957-71 ) (SR 360) Copies would shortly be circulated by the ARC Secretary. 716 The Secretary would be consulting with Dr Holmes nbovit distribution to tho Press and other interested organisations. House of Lords (689) Mr Hills had been asked to send a formal invitation to the Lords Crook and Konnet and Baroness Summerskill to visit either tho Uxbridge factory or Park Street offices of Cape Asbestos on 19th, 20th or 22nd July, as guests of the ARC. 718 HM Factory Inspectorate (.690 and SR 3^3) The ARC Secretary had written to Mr B Harvey, HM Chief Inspector of Factories, seeking an exjjlfniation of his statement at the National Industrial Safety Study Conference at Scarborough. Mr Cross reported that there appeared to have been a noticeable hardening of tho Inspectorate's attitude towards the application of tho Asbest"os_ Regulations.
