Wheeler - 5lk subject Scaleup Plans for New Suspension. Vinyl Resins Gentlemens This will confirm our discussions last week on scaleup plans for the near-term future. 1. One of the two most urgent scaleup efforts is the dryblend resin for Wire and Cable. As agreed with the Operations Team, this will amount to approximately 100,000 lb. of QXAP-12, double-washed for good electricals. The aim is to demonstrate our ability to control particle characteristics while providing sufficient resin for both internal and field evaluation. It is doubtful that we can hold onto the pilot model Bird-Young rotary vacuus filter much longer, so It is Imperative that the QXAP-12 be made immediately following the current QYTQ-7 run. Ted Smith will furnish operating recipes and instructions, and will follow the production on a run-by-run basis. Please try to alert us a couple of days before the end of the QYTQ-7 run. 2. The other urgent scaleup effort is VXKF-10. The production efforts to date have shown that at 120 rpm agitator speed, the primary particl s are too awaii to approach Steve Krumm's target, regardless of recipe adjustments. j Larger particles can be made by a moderate degree of secondary agglomeration. but this is undesirable because it lowers bulk density. The only alternative is to reduce agitator speed to increase the diameter of the basic particle. In our case, this means operation at 10k rpm with the available alternate drive gear. John Schlichter plans to do this on the South-2 line as soon as its debugging is finished, unless the South line returns to copolymer production sooner. In any case, the priority is very high because of potentially large resin sales at a premium price.
