Scott Fiber Analysis On October 3, W.R. Hanlon, A.E. Wise, and I visited Scott. During our conversation vith Sarge Chamberlain, purchasing manager at Scott, ve recommended that they have their fiber analytical vork performed by independent test laboratories. I gave him the names and addresses of George P. Clayton & Associates, and Environmental Health Laboratories Inc, two names given to me by Harry Eschenbaugh. At the time of our meeting, I vas not aware that Batelle could also run these tests. I do not believe we will be asked by Scott to provide any more analytical services but they may wish to continue to discuss this area with our experts. I think we should continue to make this new | analytical service available if requested. Any contact with Scott on this subject should be cleared with either Bill Hanlon or me. Keith W. Eschenbach believes that Scott will have fifty to sixty samples to be analyzed in 197*+. We cannot do the counting in our laboratory for less than the thirty dollar per sample rate charged by outside laboratories. In addition, we do not really have the time available for routine analyses of this type for outsiders. Since we are speaking of $1500 to $2000, I reconmend that we encourage 0. M. Scott to assist them in setting up their air sampling program for fibers in Libby ore. During this visit, several samples were taken, analyzed, and fibers counted in Cambridge, and the results submitted to Dick Gruenbaum of 0. M. Scott. Since June of 1972, 60 samples (five lots) have been analyzed by Harry Eschenbach and the CFD lab, and it appears to be a continuing project. The original intent was to assist Scott in setting up their program, but not to do all of the sample analysis work. At the going rate of $30-35 per sample, CPD has provided approximately $2,000 service during; the past year. Although we can continue to offer this service, I think you ; should be made aware that it is tying up Grace personnel and has caused sane delay in getting out Tesults on our own operation. From a business relation standpoint, you may want to continue as in the past, charge Scott a fee for this service, or discontinue the service altogether.
