The M innesota P o llu tio n C o n tro l A gency's I n d u s t r i a l and H azardous Waste E n fo rcem en t S e c tio n i n the D iv is io n o f S o lid W aste (DOW) h a s been c o n d u c tin g an i n v e s t i g a t i o n o f an abandoned dump s i t e L ocated :in th e s o u th % o f Sect ion 18, Township 29 N o rth , Range 21 West i n O a k d a le , M in n eso ta. The i n v e s t i g a t i o n began in May o f 1978, how ever, n o t u n t i l r e c e n t l y d id t h e i n v e s t i g a t i o n r e v e a l t h a t th e r e a re two s e p a r a te d is p o s a l a re a s "lo c ated in c lo s e p ro x im ity to one a n o th e r. The i n v e s tig a tio n a ls o re v e a le d that, b o th s i t e s had allow ed the dumping a s w e ll a s th e b u ry in g o f i n d u s t r i a l c h e m ic a l w a s te s . A p r i l 28, 1960 - Another f i e l d invest!gallon was p e r fo rm e d a t the, O ak d ale 'dump site to investigate the possibility that t h e dump s i t e may have accepted chemic w a s t e s . I t was determined t h a t a more d e t a i l e d investigation was i n order.
May. 13, 1980 -- The M in n eso ta Department o f T r a n s p o r t a t i o n s u b m i t t e d t o the Agency a r e p o r t o f t h e s o i l b o rin g s t h a t wore dug p r i o r ' to th e con;:; t r u e Lion o f S t a t e Highway 2 1 2 . The r e p o r t i n d i c a t e d t h a t b o r i n g s were n o t done in th e v i c i n i t y o f t h e dump clue to t h e p o t e n t i a l tm zards in v o lv e d .
June 5, 1980 - 3M a s w e ll a s one o f th e p r e se n t p ro p erty owners was c o n ta c te d by 'le tte r to re q u e st more p re c is e info rm atio n concerning p a s t disposed a t the ;0okdale' dump s i t e .
June 9, 1980 - The p re s e n t p ro p e rty owner responded to the Agency l e t t e r o f i n q u i r y . He s t a t e d th a t th e p r o p e r t y i n q u e s t i o n was p u r c h a s e d i n .1.961 and t h a t the dump s i t e was a l r e a d y abandoned. H is f u t u r e p la n s f o r th e s ite included p ossib le co:nmercial development.
.July 11, 1980 - 3M r e s p o n d s t o l e t t e r o f I n q u i r y .and c o n f ir m s t h a t i n d u s t r i a l chem ical waste (heptane, to lu e n e , m eth yl-eth yl ketone and a ceton e) were disposea t t h e Oakdale dump. 3M a l s o p rovid ed in fo rm a tio n a s to the h i s t o r y o f t h e d i s p o s a l s i t e and p o s s ib le c o n t a c t p e r s o n s.
