The attached document is from the Australian Military and is the best I have found so far. I have an email out to Ian Raymond as it seems that the Australians are far ahead of us wrt health hazards of AFFF. EPA: (PFCs) Potential pathways, which may lead to widespread exposure, include ingestion of food and water, use of commercial products or inhalation from long-range air transport of PFC-containing particulate matter (ATSDR 2009; EPA 2009c). Below is guidance that is not specific to PFCs: Chemguard - " The concentrates are not considered primary or secondary skin irritants; however, prolonged contact may cause some dryness of the skin since they contain detergents. Chemguard recommends that areas of the skin, which have come in contact with the concentrate, be flushed with fresh water. If any dryness of the skin is experienced, a good quality hand cream should be used to replenish the moisture in the skin." Chemguard MSDS - " 5.5. Protective Equipment and Precautions for Firefighters As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent) and full protective gear." National MSDS - " Individual protection measures: Respiratory Protection Wear respiratory protection if there is a risk of exposure to high vapor concentrations, aerosols or if applied to hot surfaces. A NIOSH approved full face respirator may be worn. Either filling tanks or testing flight deck systems or any action that causes skin exposure or potential inhalation of a "mist". Can you see if there is anything in what the EPA posted recently (or further back) that would imply we need to take some action on warnings or precautions or other?
