INTRODUCTION
The Asbestos International Association has carried our detailed tests identifying methods and tools currently available for wor-
kino with A.cl products on site so that dust created is reduced
to the minimum reasonably practicable level.
The choice of the most appropriate tools for use within each coun trv will depend on custom and practice and national regulations.
TESTING PROCEDURE
In order to test under the most severe conditions and also to en sure reproducibility, all work on asbestos cement products is carried out in a closed room.
For tools normally used in the open air, a low air flow of less than 0,1 m/sec. in the working zone is introduced bv suction. In this way account is taken of the normal dispersal of airbone dust on site in very calm conditions so that the test results obtained are unlikely to be exceeded at any time.
Each test is of one hour's duration. Room level (RL) reading is recorded .prior to commencement of test measurement whilst wbrk is being carried out on the asbestos cement products, samples fare taken in the workers breathing zone (BZ) and in the room itself. t- (see "figure below)

Sampling and evaluation are in accordance with the AIA Reference Method for the determination of airborne asbestos fibre concentra tions at the workplace by light miscroscopy (Membrane Filter Me thod (See AIA Publication "Recommended Technical Method n8 1" RTM.l). The operating time for each tool and product, involved are recorded.

USE OP TEST RESULTS BROCHURE
The test report .shall be used as a reference document when informa tion is required on how to work with asbestos cement products. Unde: no circumstances shall the test reports be distributed without ex planation in order to avoid misinterpretation of the results of the test.
EXPLANATION OF TEST CONDITIONS AND RESULTS OF MEASUREMENTS
Column 1 - MATERIAL
Information is given on the material being worked during the test and the working method chosen. Tests were carried out on typical products. For tools which mainly produce coarse dust, the amount of fine dust which is created depends amongst other things, on the density and thickness of the material being worked.
Column 2 - CUTTING_CAPACITY
Information is given on the volume of work achieved during the one hour test period e.g. metre run of cutting carried out.
Column 3--OPERATION_TIME_OF_TOOL

When a 10 per cent figure is quoted this means that during a test of1 hour-Ls duration the tool was operating for 6 minutes.
Given the volume of cutting and operation time one can calculate the
speed of cutting.

Column 4 - DUST_EXTRACTION_EOyiPMENT
Is the tool equipped with dust extraction ?
For tests carried out on tools requiring dust extration ecruipment, the WAP-M.l.S is quoted (except for tools delivered complete with vacuum equipment - see Ref. 3.5).
When other dust extraction equipment is being considered it should have a performance at least equal to the WAP-M.l.S.

Column 5 - AIR_EXCHANGE_IN_TEST_ROOM If no air exchange is indicated it can be assumed that in actual workint conditions the test figures will not be exceeded even in a closed room. When air exchange is indicated, such tools are normally used in the open air or for intermittent periods indoors. If used in a closed room, test figures could be exceeded. 2yI_C0NCENTRATigN Column 6 (breathing zone BZ) indicates the exposure of the operative. Column 7.(room level RL) indicates the exposure of an assistant or other persons.
