Loechelt (Week Ending August 18, 1982) Resin Development (6805) Improved Battery Separator Resin (Broemmelsiek) Resin quality was poor in the last campaign which also produced latex of low mechanical stability. Latex stability was marginally improved by additional soap and a higher water to monomer recipe. In the next campaign a different lot of Mersolat K-30 will be used if one is available in the warehouse. Initial soap concentration on VCM will be increased to the same level as the EH-231 recipe by backing out injected soap and charging it initially. If mechanical stability permits, the injected soap will be gradually decreased to raise the latex surface tension to EH-231 levels. An agitator change is also planned to check the effect on latex and dried resin quality. If a definite change is found, optimization may be desirable to fix the best agitation system. VCM Hygiene (7401) EPA Vent Summary (Raposa) The July EPA vent summary report has been prepared for Keller and Heckman. There were no vents to be reported. EPA vents The sixth EPA vent of the year occurred on August 14 when about 3210 lbs of VCM was vented from B-18 as a result of loss of mechanical agitation caused by an electrical malfunction. A meeting to discuss the most recent EPA vent was held on August 18, 1982.
