Russ Scovil of the Michigan State Department of Health was Invited and came to Midland, carefully reviewing the work environment and clinical findings of the employees. The entire disease picture was carefully reviewed. 2. Donald Birmingham, M.D. formerly associated with the U.S. Department of Public Health as a dermatologist, is an expert in the field of chloracne. Dr. Birmingham was contacted by phone. Our situation was reviewed and his advice and counsel sought. Dr. Birmingham later moved to become Professor of Dermatology at the Wayne University College of Medicine. Several contacts were continued with him in his new location. A group of approximately ten dermatologists from a variety of geographic locations accompanied Dr. Birmingham on a visit to Midland to review the on site problem. 3. Extensive contact has been held with the University of Michigan College of Medicine. This has been done primarily with Dr. Magnuson and Dr. Dinman of the Institute of Industrial Health. All the information that we had was extended in the following forms: a. A seminar for resident physicians and medical students at the University of Michigan on Chloracne. b. Presentation of several clinical cases to senior staff and professors of the University of Michigan while visiting the Midland Hospital. c. Extensive review with resident physicians at the University of Michigan, representing U.S. Navy, Atomic Energy Commission, Ontario Department of Labor, General Motors and the Ford Motor Company. Multiple inquiries and personal contacts with physicians and other health oriented individuals from private medicine, industry and foreign countries including the Netherlands, England and South America. This included a review of the problems with two physicians from an institute of health in Russia. In addition to this, it should be noted that H. C. Schaxxxweber, M.D. of The Dow Chemical Company spent three months as a Volunteer Physician in Viet Nam. At that time he was in direct contact with the people involved with defoliation, had an opportunity to talk with Air Force personnel and also had the opportunity to observe the native population living in these areas.
