Process Description: The Custom Plastics, Inc. (Custom Plastics) facility extrudes plastic to make plastic parts and makes plastic parts from molds. Plastic nsed includes polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, nylon, polyethylene and ABS. Plastics are received in supersacks, bags and tote boxes (gaylords) in beads or powder. The plastic is then pneumatically conveyed into the hopper of m1 extruder or molding machine before being dropped to a screw conveyer. While being conveyed to the mold or extrusion ape11ure, the plastic is electrically heated to approx. 350 F to melt it. Once made by the machine, the part is removed by hand for finishing, as necessary. Finishing operations include punching, cutting and assembly. Off-spec materials are reground, which is done al the individual extruder or molding machine, or in large re-grinder that is controlled by a dust collector. Mineral spirits are used as necessary for parts cleaning.
