Gates Re: Boiler Stack Insulation for Boiler F-100' Gentlemen: We are pleased to quote as follows to furnish labor and materials for a complete job of insulation and weatherproofing for the boiler stack per your "Invitation to Bid" dated October 5, 1966: Insulate 75 * of the stack using l-g11 thick Johns-Manville "Therroosbestos" block insulation laced in place with 16 gauge black annealed wire, and covered with 26 gauge (.016") aluminum with moisture barrier. Insulation support rings 1^" x 1^-" x 4" shall be fabricated and securely welded to the stack at 10' intervals. Also, at the top of the stack, where the insulation stops, we will weld a 2" x 2" x angle turned down to serve as flashing over the top of the insulation and weatherproofing. The aluminum jacketing shall be held in place with stainless steel shouldered studs 5/16" 2 2,! long spaced so that one will be in the center and at each corner of the sheet. Stainless steel strappirg 3/V x .020" shall be installed around the bottom and the middle of each sheet. In addition, stainless steel MS" clips shall be installed at least one per sheet. All aluminum sheets shall be lapped a minimum of 3" in each direction. For this work complete we quote the total sum of $U,556.00 plus 2% material tax of #26.00. For your further consideration we propose to use Fiberglas Intermediate Service, board 1%*' thick applied and weatherproofed as described above for the total sum of #3,829.03 plus #17.00 tax which is a deduction of #736.00. This material is suitable for temperatures up to 850 degrees F and the insulation value is equal or better at these temperatures. The installation using either the calcium silicate blocks or the Fiberglas would be similar in appearance and soundness to column C-606.
