Ki Subject: (Asbestos/Determination The bulk samples submitted on October 14, 1961 that were taken from the dispatch ovens in Department 6494 have been analyzed for the possible presence of asbestos. An initial asbestos screening test used by our laboratory vaB positive. The samples were then forwarded to Clayton Environmental Consultants for further analysis. The Clayton results, as outlined on their attached reports, indicate the material contains about 20 percent chrysotile asbestos. Cellulose fibers are also present. Based on the positive identification of chrysotile asbestos, employes must be monitored to determine their potential exposures. Further requirements including sign posting, waste disposal, wet demolition practices, etc. as outlined in OSEA Regulation 1910.1001 must be followed. Ab indicated in your memo of October 14, 1981, available non-asbestos substitutes are being pursued. Our office strongly encourages this substitution. Attachments D. S.
