Preliminary Reporta from Induetrial Bio-Teat
W. R. Richard R. E. Keller/S. Tucker
Enclosed are copies of the first three reports fro* Bio-Test. These are:
1. "Chicken residue studies on Aroclor and various materials."
2. "Thirty day tlssus collection studies in albino rats with Aroclors."
3. "Pour day fish toxicity studies on seven materials."
The first two of these are to be used in conjunction with any meaningful analytical studies Mne on the tissues.
The fish toxicity studies raise a number of ques tions, some of which Z hope can be answered when there has been an opportunity to analyze the water samples whioh the laboratory sent to Scott. The numbers reported as being the lethal doses are real encouraging, if we could ever determine that the concentration In the fish tanks were actually at the levels indicated. In other words. If the concentra tion was greater than 100 parts per million and the flah survived this would really be something. We find it hard to believe, however that such a concen tration would exist In the water even though a effi cient Aroclor dissolved In aoetone was added to the water to establish such a concentration.
The calculated lethal concentration of 0.66 parts per million for the 1242 and 1254 samples when bluegllls were exposed adds only confusion if one considers the solubility limits of the Aroclors. Dr. Kepllnger told me they repeated the experiment three times and got the same results in so far as the bluegl11-Aroclor numbers are concerned.
I am sure we will want to go back to Bio-Test for further discussions of this report when we have some analytical data as to the concentration in the water as determined analytically--not calculated.
