Scope of work A. Bestwall Tile Backer Board shall be applied, as a base for (ceramic) (metal) (plastic) tile, to all wall areas where such tile serves as the finished decorative surface (and/or water barrier.) B. The contractor shall supply all tools, materials, and labor necessary and required to complete all work included in this section. C. Adequate blocking for (tub) (prefabricated recep tor) (sub pan) etc., is covered in section on Framing. (See Architect's Checklist below.) D. All materials shall be new, delivered to the job site in original unopened containers or bundles, stored in an out-of-the-way place, protected from exposure to the element protected from damage by tampering, and used in strict accordance with the manufacturer's directions. 2. Materials A. V2" thick Bestwall Tile Backer Board, manufac tured by Bestwall Gypsum Company. B. Bestwall Vinyl Tile Backer Board Tape, marketed by Bestwall Gypsum Company. C. GWB #54 1 yA" ring shank nails or equal. D. Screws, if used as an alternate method of fastening, shall be 1" long drywall screws. E. Temporary strip or shim of wood or a specially designed permanent metal section. 3. Workmanship A. All framing members shall be rigidly fastened, plumb, and true. B. Installation of (tub) (prefabricated receptor) (sub pan) shall have been completed prior to erection of Tile Backer Board. C. Studs shall be furred out, as necessary, around (tub) (prefabricated receptor) (sub pan) so that the face of the water resistant wallboard, when installed, shall be flush with the upper lip of the (tub) (pre fabricated receptor) (sub pan). D. Tile Backer Board shall be applied horizontally so as to minimize butt joints with, paper bound edge along edge of (tub) (prefabricated receptor) (sub pan). Provisions pertaining to application of Tile Backer Board which should be included in other sections of the Specifications: Section__________ , Framing All stud partitions which are to receive Tile Backer Board as a base for (ceramic) (metal) (plastic) tile shall be framed straight and true 16" maximum o. c. Section______Plumbing Appropriate blocking shall be erected for (tub) (pre fabricated receptor) (sub pan) and where plumbing A.1 E. The contractor shall use a temporary strip or shim between the edge of Tile Backer Board and the lip of the (tub) (prefabricated receptor) (sub pan). When the temporary strip or shim is removed, a clearance of W shall exist between the edge of the Tile Backer Board and the lip of the (tub) (prefabricated receptor) (sub pan). A metal section especially designed for this purpose may be attached to the framing before the Tile Backer Board is erected. F. Tile Backer Board shall be fastened to side walls with nails spaced 8" o. c. Where side walls are to be faced with ceramic tile thicker than Vn", nails shall be spaced 4" 0. c. G. Tile Backer Board shall be fastened to ceilings with nails spaced 7" 0. c. (Tile is not recommended for use on ceilings.) H. If adhesive nail-on application is used as an alter nate method of fastening, the contractor shall use not less than 2 rails per board width per support. I. Where it is necessary to cut Tile Backer Board, the resulting exposed core shall be covered over with vinyl tape treatment prior to erection. In addition, where pipe holes occur, the contractor shall apply short lengths of vinyl tape to cover the exposed core. This can be accomplished by applying strips of tape through the holes from face of board to back, to com pletely seal exposed core in perimeter of openings. This shall be done in a neat workmanlike manner. The Tile Backer Board shall then be placed in position. Following erection of Tile Backer Board, the contractor shall apply vinyl tape over all edge joints. In addition, any exposed core still remaining such as nail holes, damaged face areas, openings around plumbing fix tures, soap dishes, grab bars, towel racks--or any where else, shall be covered with vinyl tape. J. Vinyl tape shall not be applied to side walls and ceilings above the tile line. Tile Backer Board above the tile line shall receive standard joint treatment. Any vinyl tape extending above the tile line shall be cut and peeled from the Tile Backer Board. Such care shall be taken as is necessary to avoid damage to the face paper.
