The procedures are not intended for routine abatement procedures in that specific safety concerns were considered in the development of the procedure. Sincerely, / DGC/brm ARD 003016 ALCOA Buss Bar Abatement Procedures Remove loose debris and vacuum residual dust from work area. Apply amended water or surfactant to the work area and buss bars. Place one layer of 6 mil. polyethylene below the work area. This will prevent contamination to the floor in the event a buss bar falls to the floor. Collect pre-abatement area samples. Regulate the work area with the appropriate red and black "Danger Asbestos" barricade tape. Post the appropriate "Danger Asbestos" signs at all entrances. Once the area has been regulated, allow entry to regulated area only to personnel with the proper training and personal protective equipment. Start area ambient air monitoring. Personnel entering the regulated work area must don the following Personal Protective Equipment: Coveralls approved by ALCOA One set of disposable coverallswith hood and booties (over the ALCOA coveralls) Gloves Rubber metatarsal boots Appropriate respirator with HEPAcartridges Start personnel monitoring. Personnel may enter the regulated area. One worker should apply amended water utilizing a spray apparatus while the other worker removes the buss bars. This will reduce the potential for fiber release. Once the buss bar has been removed it shall be wrapped and sealed in a layer of 6 mil. polyethylene. It should then be placed in a 6 mil. polyethylene bag and sealed. Once the buss bars have been removed, the polyethylene below the work area may be folded up, sealed, then placed in a 6 mil. polyethylene bag and sealed. ARD 003017 Stop ambient air samples. Start clearance air monitoring. Note: should the ambient air sample analysis result be equal to or less than the preabatement sample, the result may be used for clearance. Once clearance has been achieved, the area may be de regulated. The workers may exit the regulated area. The workers shall vacuum the outer suit with a HEPA vacuum. They may then roll the suit down. The suit must then be placed in a 6 mil. disposable bag. The workers must wet wipe their respirator with water prior to removing. Once the respirator has been wet wiped clean the worker shall remove the HEPA cartridges and place in a 6 mil. disposable bag. The respirator may now be removed. Workers may proceed to change area. Workers shall wet wipe rubber boots. Workers shall remove ALCOA coveralls and place in 6 mil. polyethylene bag. Note: the coveralls shall either be disposed of or washed with a designated washing machine with the appropriate filtration system. Workers shall seal the 6 mil. polyethylene bag containing the PPE then placed in a second bag and sealed. All waste shall be placed in the designated ALCOA asbestos waste boxes. The boxes shall have the "Danger Asbestos" sign affixed to it. ARD 003018
