I DOWNWIND OF THE CER FILLED RESINS BACHOOSE
i ABSTRACT
I Area monitoring for asbestos enlsslons has been conducted downwind of the
i CER Filled Resins Baghouse during an asbestos run. All samples collected were well below the TWA exposure standard set by OSHA.

AIR SAMPLING POR ASBESTOS PilSSIOKS DOWNWIND OP THE CER PILLED RESINS BACBOOSE
INTRODUCTION Air saapling was recently conducted downwind of the CER Filled Resins
Baghouse to determine if asbestos was being released fro* the baghouse stacks. This was done to determine if actual asbestos emissions need to be quantified by isokinetic stack saapling.
DISCUSSION Air saapling downwind of the Filled Resins Baghouse was conducted on June
18 and 19, 1986, during an asbestos run on MS409. Significant findings of asbestos in these staples would necessitate Isokinetic stack stapling In order to quantify actual asbestos ealsslons (LMH-209-86).
Of eleven staples collected, nine showed less than the detectable Halt of the analytical aethod (0*01 f/cc - phase contrast aicroscopy). Two staples 8howed asbestos concentrations of 0.02 and 0.04 fibers pet cubic centiaeter. These values are well below the TWA standard set by OSHA. They are also well below the proposed new standard of 0.1 fibers/cc TWA.
Saapling locations, wind speed and direction, and analytical results are attached. Saaples were analyzed by National Loss Control Service Corp. (NATLSCO), Long Grove, Illinois.
During the saapling period (3-6.5 hours), no visible ealsslons were noted. Two saaple locations (#1 and #9), thought to be the aoat likely to capture any particulate ealsslons, showed no detectable asbestos. Saaples #10 and #11, located further froa the stacks and only 2-3 feet off the ground, showed low concentrations of asbestos fibers. These two values (0.02, 0.04 f/cc) nay be the result of particulate ealsslons froa the filled resins building (BLDG 533), three waste duapsters nearby, or an unknown dust source.
RECOMMENDATIONS While no significant asbestos concentrations were found on this occasion,
it Is felt that this type of saapling should be continued In this area, as well as the Celanex Phase I Baghouse area, when asbestos-filled production resumes.
