Put on a Moldex 2200 or Willson 1410 toxic dust respirator prior to beginning the work. . 3. Check area Yto be repaired. If it is not soaking wet, apply water with a water hose or in water sensitive areas, with a garden-type hand pump sprayer until all asbestos tape to be removed is saturated with water. 4. Put on a pair of nitrile gloves prior to removing the asbestos tape from the line(s). 5 . Remove the asbestos tape insulation from the line and place it in an impermeable plastic bag(s). The bac(s) should be sealed at the end of the shift or when the work is finished by the employee actually doing the work. 6. The bags of asbestos debris should be placed in a DOT SPEC. 17H steel drum with locking ring. The drum lid is to be removed only when placing bags of asbestos debris inside. At all other times, the drum lid should cover the drum opening with the locking ring in place. SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES 1 . Make sure that all the necessarv supplies listed below are available on location: Moldex 2200 or Willson 1410 respirator - SBD stock #3607426050-1 and 360-7426002-1 *Water hose *Garden-type hand pump sprayer Nitrile gloves - 360-1291060-1 **Asbestos waste bags *DOT 17H steel drums **Asbestos warning labels. 2 2 . Isolate asbestos removal work area by twenty feet or more from other employees. 3 . Check on the employee removing the asbestos tape and make sure that he/she is using the specified respirator and gloves . 4. Apply the "asbestos warning labels" to the sides' and top of the waste drums. 5. REMOVAL OF LINES Routine removal of hot water lines, oil cooler lines, and air compressor discharge lines does not involve disturbance of the asbestos. No unusual precautions need to be taken; however, removed lines must be taken to the designated asbestos removal area when the work is finished or at the end of the shift. B. REMOVAL OF ASBESTOS TAPE IN THE DESIGNATED AREA 1. Check all entrances to the designated asbestos removal area to confirm that the asbestos hazard warning signs are posted at each entrance before starting any removal work. 2. Check the condition of the supplied air respirator to make sure that it is clean and operating properly. If necessary, clean the respirator at this time. Put a "bad order' tag on the respirator if it is not working properly and report the defect to your supervisor. Do not use a defective supplied air respirator. 3. Put on your assigned protective clothing: a. disposable coveralls b. NBR. nitrile gloves c. rubber boots. 4 . Put on the supplied air respirator after connecting the appropriate hoses from the air supply to the air line filter to the respirator. 5. Thoroughly soak the asbestos with water from a hose or garden-type sprayer. 6 . Remove the wet asbestos tape from the piping and place it in an impermeable plastic bag(s) . The bag(s) will be sealed at the end of the shift or when the work is is completed by the employee actually performing the work. 2 7. The bags of asbestos debris will be placed in a DOT SPEC. 17H steel drum with locking ring. The drum lid is to be removed only when placing bags of asbestos debris inside. At all other times, the drum lid will cover the drum opening with the locking ring in place.. 8. With the respirator and the protective clothing still on, wash down the removal area with a water hose or vacuum the area with a wet/drv HEPA filter asbestos vacuum cleaner. 9. Dispose of the coveralls as asbestos waste and place in the waste drums. 10. Clean and inspect the supplied air respirator. SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Make sure that all employees who are assigned to the designated asbestos removal area have had the required physical examination for asbestos work. This examination can be done by our Occupational Health Nurses. 2.
