Grumbles December 26, 1990 Skin Absorption Hazards for Copper and Lead VISTA The Blane Polymers plant recently instituted a recycle project for their process water that is contaminated with copper and lead. While this solved an effluent problem, it has resulted in a build-up of those metals in the ribbon trays of the compounding operation. The workers must routinely put their hands in this water to work the compound product. Recent analysis indicated levels of 350 p/liter of copper and 1000 p/liter of lead in the water. The plant has asked for an evaluation of this issue in regards to worker exposure through skin absorption. Basically, is this a hazard and at what levels in the water is the potential significant?
