Dear Doctor Kehoe:
While on a short tour of duty here at Fifth ArmyHeadquarters, a problem has arisen that is of importance to the Preventive Medicine Division.
There is an arsenal in the Army area that is cutting and welding titanium metal in considerable amounts with a conconmitant problem of severe titanium metal dust and fumes in the work areas. Since the metal is in the same periodic table with lead, it was considered advisable to ask your opinion on the possibility of toxic effects. We found no references to any studies with the metal.
Any information you could send to Lt colonel Ingalls H. Simnions, Chief, Preventive Medicine Division, Headquar ters Fifth Army, 1660 East Hyde Park Boulevard, Chicago 15, Illinois, would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Lt Colonel, Medical Corps
