WILMINGTON, Del., Mar. 22 -- New production capacity for more than 30>000 tons of titanium dioxide white pigment came on stream this week at its New Johnsonville, Tenn., plant, the Du Pont Company announced today. The increase raises the plant's annual capacity to more than 140,000 tons. The company also announced that construction to increase capacity by about an additional 40 per cent will begin shortly. It will be the sixth major expansion at New Johnsonville since the plant went on stream in January, 1959* It is expected to be completed by late 1973* Appropriate pollution control facilities are an integral part of the New Johnsonville expansion, the company said. Growth of the New Johnsonville plant stems from increasing demand for titanium dioxide, particularly that produced in the chloride process. The pigment is widely used in such industries as paint, paper, plastics, textiles, rubber, and floor coverings. Du Pont's Pigments Department also produces chloride titanium dioxide at Edge Moor, Del., and Antioch, Calif. ######## 3-22-72
