In 1962 the USGS Organic Act was expanded to include examinations outside the national domain. Today, the USGS leads the Nation in providing unbiased research and integrated assessments of natural resources; supporting the stewardship of public lands and waters; and delivering natural hazard science to protect public safety, health, and U.S. economic prosperity.
