Gilson, a representative or the South Carolina state Board of Health, oallod at this offiae and stated that ha was making this visit at the request of Dr* J. A. Hayne, who is the Health Officer for the State of South Carolina* '"he object of this visit was for the purpose of finding out if we would grant "mission to the South Carolina State Board of Health to make an inspection and , jdy of dust conditions at this plant. I spent quite a whilo in conversation with this Gentleman and found out that thl3 request was brought about by the U* S* Department of Health wishing to cake a survey of an Asbestos plant, which, it was considered, had been brought up to the best possible conditions at the present tine* However, it seems that the law is such that the U.B.Department of Health can not send nen into any State without first getting the permission of the State Health department, end then tho State Health Department has to ob tain permission rrcn the owners of the plant. Dr* Iftlson advised ae that this inspection would bo made by representatives of the United States Department of Health cooperating with representatives of the South Carolina State Board of Health.
