Re: Ozone Inquiry
Tom,
Attributable to an EPA spokesperson, please:
We can't comment on pending legislation.
If you would like more information about the 2015 National Ambient Air Quality Standards for ozone, see: https://www.epa.gov/ozone-pollution/2015-national-ambient-air-qualitv-standards-naaqs-ozone
EPA recently extended the deadline for promulgating initial area designations for the 2015 ozone NAAQs by one year. You can learn more about this action here: https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/epa-extend-deadline2015-ozone-naaqs-area-designations

Hi Tom,
My colleague passed along your inquiry below. I'm looking into it. Do you have a firm deadline today?

I am writing a story about the fact the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday passed the Ozone Standards Implementation Act, which will extend the date for compliance with tough new EPA ozone emissions standards from 2017 to 2026. Rep. Scott Tipton of Colorado says the new standards would be unrealistic for Colorado because atmospheric drift and wildfires cause natural ozone levels that could exceed the EPA limit. I need to know: (1) What would the new ozone emission standards mean for Colorado, both favorably and unfavorably (2) Do you agree the deadline for compliance with the new ozone emission standards should be extended under the Ozone Standards Implementation Act? Why or why not? I would appreciate a response as soon as possible today. Only a sentence or two in response to each question is good enough. Thanks. Tom Ramstack Colorado Politics
