Mr. John Gognats Shell Chemical Company 1 Shell Plaza Houston, Texas
Dear John:
Attached you will find a listing of information we would like to discuss related to 2-chloroethanol at the March 14, 1977 meeting at Deer Park. Our people from Ponca City will be coming in on a shuttle flight the morning of the 14th that should enable them to be at the plant by 10 a.m. that morning for the meeting. . If possible, we would like to carry the samples listed back to Ponca City with our people the evening of the 14th. We will have four Ponca City R&D people and two or three plant people at the meeting.
I will be out of the country until March 7; however, please feel free to call John Friend related to this meeting in my absence.
Sincerely,
J. A. DeBernardi Plant Manager

A key interest is determining the point of difference of 2-chloroethanol production and disposal in Shell Plant vs. CONOCO Plant. 1. What are the flows, temperatures, retention times, and product dis
tributions in the feed to R304 and in the purification train used on S309 EDC, S309 H2O, and R305 liquids at Shell Plant? 2. What is the H2O concentration entering R304 at Shell? 3. How much 2-chloroethanol is produced in the plant and what is its fate (as ethylene glycol in H2O, acetaldehyde and EO in light ends, 2-chloroethanol in 1,1,2-trichloroethane fraction, etc.)? 4. What % HC1 does Shell R305 liquids show? 5. How much and where is chloral produced in Shell Plant? 6. Plant arrangement: disposal of S309 H2O, H2O source for T103, Shell pit prior to C101? 7. Does Shell show periodic massive increases in EDC and 2-chloroethanol concentrations in the stream stripper bottoms? a) If so, what correlations with plant operations are known?
