Mr*. Hugh Fossett That Associated, Kthyl Company Ltd* The Adelphi London, W* C. 2 England
Dear Mr Possetfcs
Quite some time ago I received your letter with respect to the request cf the Distillers Company for a supply of tetraethyl lead for carrying on some work, th nature' of which is not disclosed. As a matter of principle, I can see no objection to supplying tetraethyl load to competent technical people who will make proper use of it under adequate conditions of safety. It is quite clear that if they arc not able to obtain it from one source, they will from another* There is, therefore, no reason why your company should not supply such material for legitimate use*
As to the precautions
which should be taken, and as to the manner of handling
th traethyl lead, you should be in better position
than I to prescribe* X have a copy of CalIngaort1s
letter of April 29th which has indicated his point
of view, and it would seem that ho had mad certain
useful suggestions* This, X believe, loaves the matter
in proper state for you to go ahead if and when it
seems desirable to do so*
.
Very truly yours,
1.
