Comparative losses at Tooels and Raritan seooadary metals department do not Indicate actual ohange* In operating conditions. In 1937 both these plant* made operating profits whleh were offset by losses on metals of a greater amount. In 1937 Tooele treated approximately double end Raritan secondary metela depurtawnt approximately 3-1/* times the quantities of metsls treated in 1938, and this loss of volume resulted in operating losses far 1938 of approxisutely the amount shown above, 1936 metal gains or losses not being of important amount. In 1937 the produot of the 2>lae oxide department was acid for till,005.30 leas than the cost of the untreated sine. The loss of 1937, therefore, conelsts of this amount plus 1753,969.07 operat ing expenses, in 1936, on a smaller volume, the total loss for the department amounted to $13,194.65 which is more nearly representative of normal conditions.
While entirely aoaurate figures for metal gains or losses at the Tooele plant and the Raritan secondary metals department eon not be arrived at, our investi gation into these two departments for the yser 1937 indicated that these losses
